The Making of the Perfect UFC-Inspired Look!

Hey LaNae Designz fam!

I'm always on the lookout for unique and exciting sewing projects, and this one is no different. A client came to me and asked if I could make one for his girlfriend. While I wanted to be nosey and find out if she was really a ring girl or if this was just a costume. I didn't, though I wish I had. Once I got the color details and her measurements, I began working on a bikini shorts pattern I found on Etsy. I changed the patterns construction to pretty much look like what you see here... Take a look at this incredible UFC-inspired two-piece set I had the pleasure of making.

Isn't it a showstopper? This sleek black halter top, adorned with the iconic UFC logo, paired with matching shorts featuring a stylish white trim and belt, truly embodies the spirit of power and athleticism. The mannequin is doing her thang-thang in this outfit. I know the owner of this outfit is going to look even more amazing in it. I really do like how it turned out.

What makes this project so exciting for me is my belief that fashion should empower you, whether you're stepping into the octagon (or just feeling like a champion in your everyday life!). I'm the put your best foot forward each day no matter if it's a good or bad day, sun or rain. Just do it, yeah I like Nike's branding... That was made for me too. Anyways, this project allowed me to dive into several things since I intentionally took the time to write them down, I'll gladly share them with you.

1- Precision and detail by replicating a well-known logo like UFC requires careful attention to detail in fabric choice, placement, and stitching to ensure it looks authentic and professional. I was so nervous on where to put everything that I had to set my feelings and emotions aside and focus on the details. I cant tell you how many times I went to their site and others looking at ring girls. It made me want to exercise and try for a washboard belly again. Since I used the word belly instead of abs can't you tell I did 10 crunches and called it a day. Ahhh... how I miss the days of flat abs and obliques that didn't have exterior handles.

2- While this outfit is undeniably fashionable, I also prioritized comfort and movement, using fabrics that would allow for flexibility. I didn't know if this lady would be in or around a ring, beach or photo studio. Either way, I wanted to make it so she could breathe and look good. This is key for every piece I create.

Are you thinking of creating your own sporty chic look?

Whether you're seasoned with custom clothing or just starting your journey to have a custom made wardrobe, planning out your closet can be incredibly rewarding. Here are a few more tips from my design table:

1- Fabric choices are Key- For activewear or form-fitting garments, consider stretch fabrics like spandex blends, performance knits, or even a good quality ponte.

2- Pattern perfection- Don't be afraid to select a style from a magazine, tv or Pinterest and modify it to your own style to achieve the exact look you're going for.

3- Embrace details- Small details like contrasting trims, unique closures, or even custom embroidery can elevate your style from good to absolutely stunning.

I'm so happy with how this UFC-inspired set turned out, and it's a fantastic example of the diverse range of projects I love to bring to life here at LaNae Designz.
